Apply as a trader

As your Borough Council we are here to support businesses as well as protect residents, especially at a time when residents are more vulnerable than ever to criminals and scammers trying to cash in on people’s vulnerability.

The membership fee of £279 + Vat (£55.80) includes our vetting fee of £99 + Vat (£19.80) and is non-refundable, regardless of whether the application is successful or not.

You can save your online application at any time and log back into your trader account to complete at any time

Before you apply

Gather digital copies of your documents

Remember the form of ID must be a different document to that for proof of address for all owners / directors on the application form. You cannot use one form of identification for both name and address.

Vetting Checks

Sit back and wait for us to complete our checks

You should hear very soon if you have been successful but please allow up to 10 days. If you haven’t heard from us by then please contact us on trading.standards@bromley.gov.uk.

Who can apply?

For a business to be eligible to apply for Trading Standards Checked, you must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be based in Bromley

  • Provide home improvement or maintenance services

  • Be committed to providing a safe and trustworthy service to the residents of Bromley

  • Have been trading for more than 6 months.

What's the catch?

There isn't one. All membership benefits are included. There are no hidden fees, no lead payments or any other charges. You pay for your membership and that's it. By signing up for the Trading Standards Checked Scheme you are paying to be checked by Trading Standards and to be able to promote this accreditation to your customers.
